Introduction to the Page Builder

The Page Builder is a powerful feature in BlueDocs that allows you to create organized, visual hubs for your documents. Think of pages as custom dashboards that bring related documents together in a structured, easy-to-navigate format.

What is the Page Builder?

The Page Builder is a visual content organization tool that enables you to:

  • Create structured pages with custom icons, titles, descriptions, and cover images
  • Organize documents into sections that group related content logically
  • Build document hubs that serve as centralized access points for teams
  • Design visual layouts that make information discovery intuitive

Key Components of a Page

Page Elements

  • Page Title & Icon: Customizable emoji or icon with a descriptive title
  • Page Description: Brief explanation of the page's purpose
  • Cover Image: Optional visual header that can be sourced from Unsplash or uploaded
  • Status: Draft, Published, or Archived states with approval workflows
  • Visibility Controls: Manage who can access the page within your organization

Sections

Pages are organized into sections - logical groupings that help structure your content:

  • Each section has its own title and description
  • Sections can contain multiple document slots
  • Sections help create a clear information hierarchy

Document Slots

Within each section, you can create document slots:

  • Placeholder areas where specific documents can be assigned
  • Customizable labels that describe what type of document belongs in each slot
  • Visual previews showing document type, category, and status
  • Easy document assignment and replacement functionality

How Pages Fit Into BlueDocs

Pages complement your existing document types (SOPs, Knowledge Base, Training, Policies) by providing:

  • Curated Collections: Group related documents from different types together
  • Team Hubs: Create department or project-specific landing pages
  • Onboarding Resources: Build structured learning paths for new team members
  • Quick Access Points: Centralize frequently accessed documents

Access and Navigation

  • Pages appear in the main sidebar under their own navigation section
  • Individual pages are listed with their custom icons for easy identification
  • Pages can be organized into folders for better structure
  • Each page has its own URL and can be shared publicly if enabled

Permission Model

Page access follows BlueDocs' role-based permission system:

  • Create Pages: Users with appropriate permissions can build new pages
  • Edit Pages: Page creators and users with edit permissions can modify content
  • View Pages: All organization members can view published pages (unless restricted by visibility controls)
  • Publish Pages: May require approval based on your organization's workflow settings

Status and Workflow

Pages support BlueDocs' standard content lifecycle:

  • Draft: Pages under development, visible only to creators and editors
  • Published: Live pages accessible to all permitted users
  • Archived: Pages that are no longer active but preserved for reference
  • Approval Workflows: Depending on your organization settings, pages may require approval before publishing

Use Cases

The Page Builder is ideal for:

  • Department Landing Pages: Create hubs for HR, IT, Sales, or other teams
  • Project Documentation: Centralize all project-related documents in one place
  • Training Programs: Build structured learning paths with sequential content
  • Policy Centers: Group related policies and procedures together
  • Resource Libraries: Create themed collections of reference materials

Getting Started

To begin using the Page Builder, navigate to the Pages section in your sidebar and click "Add Page". From there, you can start building your first custom document hub using the intuitive drag-and-drop interface.

The Page Builder transforms how your team discovers and accesses information, moving beyond simple document lists to create meaningful, organized experiences that improve productivity and knowledge sharing.
